2024 Toodyay Agricultural Show getting closer

Toodyay Agricultural Society

By Alison Wroth – Chief Steward

HALFWAY through the year and our new committee members are either both overwhelmed and inspired with understanding what it takes to pull a historical Agricultural Show of this standard together; or hopefully just enjoying being involved in the “Show” at last.

At present, we have many activities on the boil including the maintenance of the show bar building and organisation of the 170th Toodyay Show “Dance Through the Decades” at the Memorial Hall, being the main ones.

Regarding the latter, held every ten years, we owe it to the show dance to celebrate in style people and dress up to dance the night away while we acknowledge the history of the coming Toodyay Agricultural Show in October.

A connection to the show will be such links as food vans outside in Federation Square and lovely festoon lighting.

There will be many more surprises so make sure you purchase those tickets.

At least consider SAVE THE DATE 31st August 2024 for a night to remember with friends, drinks, and good music; something that we do not get the chance to see in the Memorial Hall often enough. Single $100 and $170 for a couple.  Cocktail dress is the code and gourmet canapes are the menu of the night.

Moving on to activities by the chief steward; all stewards positions are virtually filled now so I must thank those locals that came forward when I advertised and spread the word on my need for new stewards this year.

I have considered a wonderful initiative to motivate entrants chasing that elusive “Best Exhibit” Sash.  Usually, we do not have the year on the sash and due to wanting the ability to reuse them the following year, the colour has remained constant – the brand colours of the Society, the burgundy sash with the gold lettering.

Well things will be a standout in this special year in the exhibition sections, as the Best Exhibit Sashes will be dated, and a brilliant gold with the burgundy font.  If you win, your exhibit will stand out from the pack and you will take home the historical sash, dated, never to be used again.  So, start thinking about entering people, something to aim for in ALL sections.

Our wood raffle is to be held on the 12th/13th July.  A wonderful opportunity to purchase one of our solid TAS shopping bags as well, that at $10 per bag is excellent value for a bag that will see you out and shows your support for our annual agricultural Show.  An EFTPOS machine will be on hand so there is no need to search for that change either.  If you don’t want to buy a ticket, just stop and have a chat anyway.

A variety of both new and old entertainment will be in action at the show this year.  I am looking forward to bringing the tug-o-war rope back into action….it will be a new rope people as the other rope had taken on a slightly vintage look.  We might have it on the ground anyway.  So, I believe this will be taking place in the late afternoon like it used to.  Men, women, children; get in the mindset and ensure that you have the possible team secured to win the prize.  It’s a shame the Governor will not still be on the ground!

See you at the Show.
