Men's shed salutes Hector

HECTOR Ross was a great grumpy guy who sped through the streets of Toodyay on his gopher to find friends and engage with them.
For many years he was a member of the Toodyay Men’s Shed and provided the shed with numerous little ‘ditties’ about his life in the pastoral industry.

Many people may not know that Hector was a great fisherman and loved the Pilbara’s ocean and rivers, to the extent that he lived in the north for many years.

Hector and his beloved Lucia came to Toodyay with a passion for life and they developed a working farm with tractors and other machinery to keep the farm going and, of course, he made his famous tipple.

Then came the accident; our friend had a bingle with a tractor and developed an infection which turned into a serious complaint with Hector losing part of his legs and fingers. Did he falter?

You betta believe he did not. His tenacity for life was such that he said: “So what, I have other limbs to help me, I can cope.”

Hector and Lucia bought a ‘home alone’; a bigger and better than a caravan rig, and ventured together to further fields.

Even with Hector and his disabilities, Lucia has shared everything and loved this man along the way.

From our men at the Toodyay Men’s Shed we salute you Hector. You have given us the guidance to continue and you will live on in our memories.

Chairman, Toodyay Men’s Shed
