Herald invests $10,000 in community groups

The Toodyay Herald (Inc)
Heather Appleby

YOUR LOCAL newspaper has in effect donated almost $10,000 back to the community during the last financial year.
This is the value of discounts offered to local not-for-profit to community organisations  to advertise in the Herald.
Had we charged full price for those ads, our profit last year would have been $11,000.
Our actual profit was just over $1300 which, taking into account high IT costs, was a good result.
The Herald is a not-for-profit community organisation run by volunteers and is very proud of this record – it is a clear demonstration of our commitment to support local community groups.
Our recent AGM saw last year’s committee re-elected for the next 12 months, with one vacancy filled by Meredith Neilsen.
Editor Michael Sinclair-Jones advised the meeting that the Herald had submitted four entries to this month’s annual WA Media Awards.
They included news written by Michael, columns written by Bat in the Belfry Geoff Appleby, profiles by sub-editor Ieva Tomsons and a story jointly written by acting editor Roger Simms and Geoff Appleby in May, with graphics by Sandra Harms.
Yearly membership of The Toodyay Herald (Inc) is available to readers for $10 and will increase from 1 July 2018 to $15, pr $12 for concession card holders.
