Tired of paying off shire debt

WHY WOULD anybody want to open or operate a business in Toodyay, when the Shire of Toodyay, without any consultation or warning, increases rates by 300 per cent.
Was this obscene rate increase due to the Valuer General re-rating the whole shire or only Extracts Light Industrial Area?
Should this not be the case and the Shire of Toodyay has taken it on themselves, it is quite obvious that they have learnt nothing of their fiasco with their illegal rate increase to ratepayers in Morangup last year.
The Shire of Toodyay, staff and councillors spent approximately $3500 for their Christmas party in the Swan Valley last year, so the $3800 rate increase should just about cover the cost of this year’s party.
Imagine if the shire staff and councillors spent this money supporting local business and not spending ratepayers’ money outside the shire boundary.
Toodyay ratepayers are tired of paying off shire debt, whether that be shire legal action, estimated at $350,000, the Christmas party at $3500 – the list goes on.
Without vision or any forward-thinking, Toodyay is not only sitting still, it is actually going backwards.
Maybe we should amalgamate with Northam Shire, if they would have us, as they encourage development and employment making a more vibrant locality.
Northam ratepayers can see where their rates are being spent.
How fortunate are Shire of Toodyay ratepayers that the president is not taking home his full entitlement, but that is another $64,000 question.
